The larger coupling OD of the USS-CDC HTQ® creates a lower stressed connection compared to similar size API buttress couplings. The larger section area can carry higher compression and tension, plus reaction forces from applied torque. The larger coupling OD provides resistance to over-stress during bending and rotating – whether at make-up or down hole. Higher tension capability in the heavier weights allows for higher bending build rates in deeper wells. Also, greater pressure resistance allows higher fracturing pressures without suffering “beyond yield” stress in the coupling.

The longer pins of USS-CDC HTQ®, together with the larger coupling OD, produce a more stable connection with a more uniform stress profile under bending, rotating and hydraulic fracturing. The controlled thread tolerances give more consistent and repeatable assembly torques. They also support lower connection stresses by lowering the assembly stresses, thus limiting the maximum stress due to assembly and applied loads. USS-CDC HTQ® is also available with an optional resilient seal ring in the thread area of the coupling. This seal ring provides a dependable backup for internal and external pressure.
